Oops! My bad. I forgot we’re no longer concerned about the globe warming. Now we’re worrying about the climate changing. Of course, the planet has warmed and cooled, and the climate has changed, since the earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago. But we’re doing something wrong, that’s for sure.
What these Gaia worshipers want is a return to the Garden of Eden. Man has become a curse on the natural world, and we should return to the state of nature. In greatly diminished numbers, of course.
But when Eve, our common mother, was tempted by the serpent, and tasted the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, mankind was stained forever with her original sin. We were banished from the Garden of Eden, and forced to make our way in the larger world. We can never go back.
The Gospel of John the Divine begins, “In the beginning was the word.” The original Greek word, “logos”, was translated into ‘word.” But the alternative translation may be more illuminating. Logos also means “reason”.
So, “In the beginning was reason.” And it is reason itself that these pagans reject. It’s goes against their faith.
